When to Call Plastic Surgeon to ER

Written by Boris Volshteyn MD Dec 13 • 1 minute read

You should call a plastic surgeon in the emergency room if you have a serious injury or condition that requires immediate surgical intervention. Some examples of situations where you may need to call a plastic surgeon in the emergency room include:

  • Severe burns: If you have sustained a severe burn, a plastic surgeon may be able to provide specialized treatment to help reduce scarring and improve healing.
  • Trauma: If you have been in a car accident or suffered a similar traumatic injury, a plastic surgeon may be able to repair damaged tissues and bones.
  • Infections: If you have an infection in a surgical wound or other area of the body, a plastic surgeon may be able to perform emergency surgery to remove infected tissue and prevent the infection from spreading.
  • Blockages: If you have a blockage in your airway or other vital organ, a plastic surgeon may be able to perform emergency surgery to remove the blockage and restore proper function.
  • Laceration: lacerations or cuts on face or in the proximity of major anatomic structures, muscles, nerves, etc
  • Dogbites

In general, if you have a serious injury or condition that requires immediate surgical intervention, you should call a plastic surgeon in the emergency room. They can provide the specialized care and expertise you need to address your condition and help improve your chances of a successful outcome.
